You Are Not My Mother (2021) 88% 3.5/5 EDIT “Rooted in sinister Irish folklore, writer-director Kate Dolan's debut feature is an impressive accomplishment. Her direction of the ensemble cast is excellent and her handling of the ambiance required for the horror genre is masterful.” – entertainment.ie Feb 28, 2022 Full Review Studio 666 (2022) 56% 3/5 EDIT “It's all so over the top that one does find themselves laughing out loud. 'Studio 666' won't be going down with the classics anytime soon, but its a bit of craic while it lasts in any case.” – entertainment.ie Feb 23, 2022 Full Review Here Before (2021) 86% 3.5/5 EDIT “A key element of 'Here Before' that will capture audiences is the terrific central performance of Andrea Riseborough. As a mother in mourning and consumed, she consistently moves the audience and carries them through her journey.” – entertainment.ie Feb 15, 2022 Full Review Marry Me (2022) 61% 2/5 EDIT “'Marry Me' is also overly long and not particularly romantic or funny. It's predictable and forgettable.” – entertainment.ie Feb 11, 2022 Full Review The Tinder Swindler (2022) 97% 4/5 EDIT “Expertly edited and suspenseful, the twists and turns the story takes get ever crazier and more appalling. Essential viewing, this is a documentary that has more takeaway lessons than you would think.” – entertainment.ie Feb 3, 2022 Full Review Belle (2021) 95% 3.5/5 EDIT “As stunning as it is emotional and thoughtful, 'Belle' is a film you come away from feeling hopeful, which is the best kind of feeling after a movie.” – entertainment.ie Feb 3, 2022 Full Review Sing 2 (2021) 72% 2.5/5 EDIT “There is the odd humourous scene, but even the "conflicts" our Sing 2, characters face feel forced. In the end, it is a nicey nice, well-intentioned movie. But there's little depth and it's really just one for the kids.” – entertainment.ie Jan 25, 2022 Full Review A Journal for Jordan (2021) 39% 3/5 EDIT “The romance feels drawn out for a feature that runs for over 2 hours. There's little drama or suspense to the proceedings. Moreover, it seems ambiguous as to its message about war.” – entertainment.ie Jan 19, 2022 Full Review My Son (2021) 25% 2.5/5 EDIT “For all its solid ingredients, the final formula of My Son is let down by a wandering script. You end up with this jumbled up mess of a movie that goes from harrowing, sincere drama to over-the-top revenge thriller. It just doesn't sit right.” – entertainment.ie Jan 17, 2022 Full Review Munich: The Edge of War (2021) 83% 3.5/5 EDIT “George MacKay, whose career has really shot up since 1917, makes for a disarming lead while Jannie Niewohner also impresses in the other primary role. Jeremy Irons steals the show as Neville Chamberlain.” – entertainment.ie Jan 13, 2022 Full Review Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (2022) 47% 3/5 EDIT “Aside from the great visual gags around the monster characters, there's some slapstick and pratfalls, and despite the weak plot, audiences should allow themselves a giggle as they embrace the childish humour.” – entertainment.ie Jan 11, 2022 Full Review The Tender Bar (2021) 51% 2/5 EDIT “The conversations lull and the characterisation is vague and uninteresting. The Tender Bar wants to carry off that easy-going, effortless charisma that Affleck's Charlie conveys but never quite gets there.” – entertainment.ie Jan 6, 2022 Full Review Licorice Pizza (2021) 90% 4/5 EDIT “In Licorice Pizza, Paul Thomas Anderson has given us another youthful, celebratory 1970s-set movie, distinguished by a terrific script that's infused with care and humour.” – entertainment.ie Dec 28, 2021 Full Review The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021) 68% 4/5 EDIT “It's not every day you come across such a character of a movie as The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. The film really is as electrical as the title indicates. It is also quirky, ambitious, charming, and deeply moving.” – entertainment.ie Dec 28, 2021 Full Review Being the Ricardos (2021) 68% 2/5 EDIT “Everything feels rushed and like a box ticking exercise of what revolutionary moments of I Love Lucy to include. The resulting feature feels cool and flat.” – entertainment.ie Dec 22, 2021 Full Review Last Train to Christmas (2021) 80% EDIT “If you're looking for those magical, wistful, contemplative and hopeful feelings that, every so often, a really special Christmas movie will provoke, then Last Train to Christmas is well-worth seeking out.” – entertainment.ie Dec 20, 2021 Full Review West Side Story (2021) 91% 4.5/5 EDIT “The West Side Story remake brings those musical numbers that fans of the original are so familiar with into fresh light, elevating them to another level. The choreography is fantastic and the actors and setting are framed so beautifully.” – entertainment.ie Dec 20, 2021 Full Review Boxing Day (2021) 83% 3/5 EDIT “Its objective of having a good time is undeniable, and it's hard to resist being swept up in the seasonal fun.” – entertainment.ie Dec 15, 2021 Full Review C'mon C'mon (2021) 94% 4.5/5 EDIT “C'mon C'mon is a warm and affectionate love letter to the wonders of kids. Flowing from one scene to another are these tender, sweet, little moments, culminating in a finale that'll leave your head thoughtful and heart filled.” – entertainment.ie Nov 30, 2021 Full Review A Boy Called Christmas (2021) 83% 3/5 EDIT “Though inconsistent, there's enough appeal, jubilance, and yes, that special thing called magic, in A Boy Called Christmas for families to be enthralled by.” – entertainment.ie Nov 24, 2021 Full Review The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star (2021) 57% 1/5 EDIT “There really isn't all that much to say about 'The Princess Switch' threequel's quality - and one can pretty much surmise where we're going with the story within its first few minutes.” – entertainment.ie Nov 19, 2021 Full Review Encanto (2021) 92% 4/5 EDIT “Encanto is a magical adventure that's impossible not to be moved and exhilarated by. Watch it with your family and then give them a big group hug after.” – entertainment.ie Nov 15, 2021 Full Review Tick, Tick... Boom! (2021) 88% 3/5 EDIT “Liun-Manuel Miranda's over emphasis on style is haphazard, distracting and hectic. The audience is alternately fuelled by adrenaline and exhausted as shot comes after shot, scenes race after one another, and even the music feels sped up.” – entertainment.ie Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Home Sweet Home Alone (2021) 15% 2/5 EDIT “Nobody really wanted Home Sweet Home Alone, which is as charmless as it is pointless. There's no life to these characters or real heart in this plot.” – entertainment.ie Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Finch (2021) 74% 2.5/5 EDIT “The movie is ultimately pretty dull, relying totally on the charisma and talent of Hanks and this cute dog. As far as iconic movie robots go, Jeff just isn't all that interesting or original.” – entertainment.ie Nov 4, 2021 Full Review
