In this chilling adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel, withdrawn and sensitive teen Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) faces taunting from classmates at school and abuse from her fanatically pious mother (Piper Laurie) at home. It isn’t explicitly about school shootings and yet it shows you, like no other film I have ever seen, the horrifying wish-fulfilment ecstasy of such horrific acts. De Palma is the only director who could have done it.

It walks the line between dark comedy, horror, melodrama successfully. The over the top cruelty and humiliation portrayed in the film don’t seem ridiculous... because they represent the inner distorted world that every teen experiences in high school.

The film that put Stephen King in the spotlight and, incidentally, brought issues such as religious fanaticism and bullying to the fore. Despite being 50 years old, it does not feel dated, and its final 20 minutes continue to send shivers down the spine.

Great performances by Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. A great soundtrack, too. "Carrie" is a good movie, not great. It is a horror movie, although not horrifying. I left the theater laughing with my friends. The last 25 minutes are pure cinema entertainment. I rank "Carrie" as one of the top 15 horror films of all time.

Carrie is a somber, even tragic tale of a cute yet shy outcast who means no harm to anybody but what they don’t know is that she holds a special gift, something that seems magical that in turn can be downright terrifying if she gets pushed too far. Sissy Spacek was absolutely perfect with her performance as the title character & if you told me would I ever take Carrie to the prom? I’d say yes!
