It's as if Steve Martin didn't dare give us "the father-daughter comedy"; but, at the same time, the film is imbued with a sensitivity that keeps you hooked. It will resonate with all fathers, and daughters will say their fathers are like that (or even more intense). The film mostly elicited forced laughter from me; however, it's simple and charismatic.
