Jay D @JayJustLovesMovies 2d I just watched the 4k release of Amadeus, a movie I've loved since its release. That said it's probably been fifteen to twenty years since I last watched it. Happy to say it's timeless. The 4k version is beautifully done, it was an absolute treat to watch again. Now that I own it, I'm sure I'll pull it out every couple years. Pure entertainment. Acting, story, costumes and scenery...it's all spot on. Highly recommended if you've never seen, or due for a re-watch. Berridge as Constanze was the standout for me, along with her time onscreen with Hulce. The perfect "dramedy" and an outstanding production. Same is true if you think this is supposed to be historically accurate. This movie is about Salieri’s descent into madness; his war against God (Mozart is merely God’s incarnation); and his fall from grace. And it’s mesmerizing! What could be more compelling than a man battling God? F. Murray Abraham gives the best performance I’ve ever seen. Some people won’t be able to see past the wigs and 18th century apparel. Some people will tell themselves “I hate opera and/or history.” It’s their loss, as Salieri’s fall from grace is every bit as dramatic as Michael Corleone’s (Godfather), Walter White’s (Breaking Bad), Anakin Skywalker’s (Star Wars), and the devil’s himself.
