In the small town of Gatlin, S.C., teenage Ethan Wate sees his static world shaken by the arrival of Lena Duchannes, the niece of town patriarch Macon Ravenwood. Immediately, Ethan feels drawn to Lena, even though destruction seems to surround her, and she has supernatural powers that are beyond her control. Nah, I didn’t like it. So much potential but failed to deliver and make an impact. Between the main characters (Ethan and Lena) there’s no chemistry whatsoever, their dialogues are cringy, awkward and forced, it just felt ingenuine. CGI was too performative and fake which sometimes can work if properly directed, that’s not the case here unfortunately. No wonder why this movie got lost in 2013s archives and no one talks about it. I saw no other "casters" except for Duchannes family members and the whole project simply wasn’t executed well due to the lack of investment. Although Viola Davis and Emma Thompson couldn’t save this movie, they were the highlights and the main reason why I gave it a chance.

Forbidden love is a tale that transcends the love between Pyramus & Thisbe, Abelard & Héloïse, Romeo & Juliet, Guinevere & Lancelot and even Edward and Bella. Beautiful Creatures is one of those stories that tells of two young people who are meant to be together but forces outside of their control try to keep them a part. A story of love and sacrifice told in It's own unique way. It takes the "forbidden love" template and twists it by making the boy the mortal, the girl the supernatural threat, and the stakes are not about society’s disapproval but about destiny. The romance doesn't cause the conflict it collides with the supernatural happenings already at play. Unlike Twilight, there is some personality and laughs throughout this movie. The love between Ethan and Lena is undeniable, where you find yourself rooting for them. This movie captures the true essence of forbidden love and how it's worth fighting for.

The dynamics of this totally ludricous movie about modern-day witches in the South of the US were the highlight of this movie and there was good chemistry between the romantic leads.
