Is Blade Runner 2049 a masterpiece like its predecessor? Definitely not. It's not even a match for 2016's superb Arrival, the previous film from director Denis Villeneuve. Yet on its own terms, it's a dazzling achievement.

It's an absolute travesty that this masterpiece bombed at the boxoffice. With fantastic imagery, a brilliant performance from Gosling, and compelling, original story that honors the original without repeating it, this is one of those rare, rare sequals that surpass the classic source material.

Interesting, as long as you can deal with the very slow pace and muttered dialogue and can gloss over the crazy concept. It's not bad, and the atmosphere kind of feels true to the original (look out for Edward James Olmos, reprising his role and with more prescient origami), but it really drags.
