Brad Sloan has a satisfying career and a comfortable life in suburban California, but it's not quite what he imagined during his glory days in college. Sloan keeps comparing his life with those of his four college friends, wondering what it would be like to have their well-paying and glamorous jobs. When circumstances force Brad to reconnect with his buddies, he soon begins to question whether he has failed, or is in some ways the most successful of them all.

Netflix just put this in the catalogue on december 2025 and I watched it because there was nothing else I haven't seen. This movie is like eating faeces expecting that eating more faeces would eventually make them taste like milky chocolate. Guess what, it doesn't. I'd gladly recommend it to my enemies.

Brad's Status is a 2017 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Mike White 🍿 The pace of this movie is just toooo slow… Not bad, but not my favourite either 😐 Meh, it passed the time. Just. 😐 👍🏼👎🏼 Although Brad has a satisfying career, a sweet wife and a comfortable life in suburban Sacramento, things aren't quite what he imagined during his college glory days. When he accompanies his musical prodigy son on a university tour, he can't help comparing his life with those of his four best college friends who seemingly have more wealthy and glamorous lives. But when circumstances force him to reconnect with his former friends, Brad begins to question whether he has really failed or if their lives are actually more flawed than they appear.

This is an outstanding movie that should have received higher scores in my opinion. It says so much about the preciousness of life and how precarious it is. How one's personal values shape one's life because they shape one's choices to a large extent. At the same time, it points out the fact that what we define as problems is very much shaped by the culture and socioeconomic background from which we come. I really liked Ben Stiller in this and Austin Abrams, who played his son was very good, with a nuanced portrayal of this highly intelligent, talented, sincere young man. I recommend it and right now it is streaming on Amazon Prime video for free.
