Aspiring young shoe designer Drew Baylor (Orlando Bloom) gets fired from his high-profile job after the failure of his latest project. To make matters worse, his girlfriend, Ellen (Jessica Biel), leaves him, and he becomes suicidal. Drew's morbid plans are interrupted by the news of his father's death, and he is called back to his Kentucky hometown. On his flight home, he meets the lovely Claire (Kirsten Dunst), a sunny flight attendant who tries to help him embrace life once again.

I've probably watched this movie more than any other. It's a feel good movie from start to finish. Whenever I feel about ready to get on the elliptical I know it's time for Elizabethtown. I love Almost Famous, but this one is just as good and the best kept secret. The music is parfait. When Ryan Adams arrives I melt immediately. Solo road trips, a manic pixie dream girl and a magnificent shoe.

When asked what the two worst movies I've ever seen are, I don't have to rack my brain. The answer comes readily: Celtic Pride (1996) and Elizabethtown (2005). Picking between the two, Elizabethtown gets the nod for THE worst, likely because my expectations were higher going in. Elizabethtown has now occupied this august position for 20 years. Bravo, team.

Corny, over-the-top, unrealistic dialogue and a horribly performance of a horrible written character by Bloom tanks this movie. Dunst is okay with a bizarre accent. Baldwin was a rare bright spot. It captures some of the feeling of smalltown mid-America, but it is SO over the top and corny. Bad.

It seems this film got killed in editing (or lack thereof). What could have been a quality movie at 90 - 100 minutes dragged on for 2 hours.
