What to Know

Critics Consensus

A smart and subversive twist on slasher horror, Fear Street Part II: 1978 shows that summer camp has never been scarier thanks to stellar performances from Sadie Sink, Emily Rudd, and Ryan Simpkins.

1978 emulates the first Golden Age of slasher movies, particularly ones set in rural areas. Go to Full Review

So much of the trilogy is dedicated to expositional scenes laying down the foundations of Shadyside's history, there's too much that's admirable in theory and flat on screen. Go to Full Review

As love letters to 1970s and '80s slashers go, this is one of the best I've seen outside of 2015's The Final Girls. Go to Full Review

Fear Street Part Two: 1978 can be predictable, slow-paced, and yet, it’s nice to see some plot points come full circle with the previous film. Go to Full Review

As for “1978”, it manages to be both nostalgically transporting and needlessly irritating. Go to Full Review

Andre L. @ROTTENCORPSE May 17 More of the same misteps from the original, nothing was learned from the failures of the first film, but once they made their choices it was clear this was the director ignoring fans of the books and just making sure to fpcus on I injecting their personal ideology instead of compelling storylines. See more Rob A @RT76386004 May 15 A gorefest likely intended for a teenage audience (but as they would say - Sadie Sink is fire.) See more Ame G. @Tunadachi Apr 22 My favorite in the Fear Street Trilogy! You could honestly watch 1 or 2 as a standalone movie, but 2 absolutely blows the first one out of the water in my opinion. 2 is way more fun because we get to see more background on the killers seen in 1. Having these reoccurring characters makes this one even more gripping and entertaining to see these new protagonists grapple with the same or similar threats as the original. Very classic campy slasher film that isn't unoriginal and does not feel lazy when executing tropes of the genre! See more Charles T. @CharlesGaming1000 Apr 14 this was my favorite of the trilogy and it still is mostly because of how scary it was to me It was still very funny And even though this completely different story, it still connects to the first movie it really sticks the landing See more Chris P @Xiao_Proxies Apr 14 Fear Street Part 2: 1978 takes us back in time with a refreshing shift in tone and setting, diving deeper into the backstory of the Shadyside curse. Trading 90s nostalgia for summer camp carnage, the film leans fully into its slasher roots, and it works. While it may not reinvent the genre, it's a well-paced and bloodier installment that feels more confident than Part 1. The storytelling is tighter, and the lore surrounding Sarah Fier becomes far more compelling. Characters like Ziggy and Cindy are given stronger development, and the performances help carry the emotional beats alongside the carnage. The kills are more brutal, the tension better built, and the whole thing feels like a solid homage to classics like Friday the 13th. That said, it still doesn't manage to be scary. Suspense is sacrificed for predictability in some moments, and the film sticks a little too close to familiar tropes. But it's a more focused and enjoyable experience overall, and sets the stage nicely. See more ch3rrii S @ch3rriist4r Mar 2 hey this was pretty good See more Read all reviews
