Alex Owens (Jennifer Beals) is a beautiful young woman who works a day job in a steel mill and dances in a bar at night. When Alex discovers that her handsome boss, Nick Hurley (Michael Nouri), is both interested in her and supportive of her performing career, she renews her efforts to get accepted into a prestigious dance conservatory. Although Alex is frightened of failure, she is cheered on by Nick, as well as by her mentor, former ballet performer Hanna Long (Lilia Skala).

Jennifer Beals can dance like a maniac under an electrifying soundtrack, but I have the impression that her role is not enough to invigorate a narrative that stumbles too much between the camp and the videoclip routine. [Full review in Spanish]

Filme legal, o roteiro é legalzinho, as cenas são legais, a história é legalzinha, o elenco é bacaninha, e alguns ajudam a melhorar o filme, os personagens são bacanas, e o filme tem um trilha sonora muito boa, com músicas legais da época dos anos 80 como (she a maniac) e a musica do filme (what a feeling), com tudo isso, eu recomendo esse filme vale a pena assistir.

The music and dance scenes are great, I like the romance, with also the general plot of the movie. Also the ballet being put in the mix. I think the boss of the workplace should have been someone else like the lead actor from dirty dancing. Just seemingly more fitting. Is a movie I have watched many times and still love to watch.

I love the way this movie tells stories through dance, music, and artful filmmaking. It shows more than it tells, and that’s why it continues to mesmerize us years later. If you are a music-lover, dancer, feminist, athlete, dog lover, or any of the above, you need to stop what you’re doing and watch this movie, IMMEDIATELY.

Synopsis
