Critics Consensus

Thanks to the cast, Ghostbusters 2 is reasonably amusing, but it lacks the charm, wit, and energy of its predecessor.

Murray's character sits firmly at the center of the film, and makes it part of a series, rather than just another sequel. Go to Full Review

The sequel is, on the whole, a fairly mechanical spook show, filled with grinning ghosts that are definitely ghoulish but hardly menacing. Go to Full Review

Bruce W. @RT91608307 4d I felt ripped off. Very poor follow up. See more Blake- N @PBSAniDom May 13 Ghostbusters II is a solid and enjoyable sequel that brings back the charm of the original while offering its own lighter, more family-friendly tone. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel, but it provides a comfortable return to a world fans already appreciate. The returning cast works well together again, delivering familiar chemistry and comedic timing that carries much of the film. There are plenty of humorous moments that keep the pacing engaging, even when the story leans into simpler directions. The film’s visual effects and atmosphere still hold up in an entertaining way, giving it that late 80s and early 90s cinematic feel. It balances supernatural fun with lighthearted storytelling that makes it easy to watch without overthinking it. Overall, Ghostbusters II is a decent sequel worth watching for fans of the original. It may not surpass its predecessor, but it still delivers enough entertainment value. I rate it a 7/10. It is easy to revisit and holds nostalgic appeal. See more Jack S @JackSV May 3 I love this movie more then the first See more Chris P @Xiao_Proxies Apr 13 Ghostbusters II reunites the iconic team of paranormal investigators, bringing back the charm, the chemistry, and the comedic timing that made the first film such a phenomenon. Watching Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson interact remains a delight, and their charisma still carries many scenes. The film retains the franchise's signature blend of the supernatural and the absurd, and it still offers a few fun set pieces and quotable lines. There's definitely fun to be had, especially for those already invested in the Ghostbusters universe. But as a standalone film, it doesn't quite reach the same level of creativity or energy. Ghostbusters II is a decent sequel, enjoyable in parts, but ultimately it plays things a bit too safe for its own good. See more Justin T @RT08580778 Mar 21 I prefer the first film but not by a lot. They are very similar. This one is funnier. They both have the same pacing issues. This has arguably more memorable moments but suffers from the lack of uniqueness and fails in the zeitgeist. It’s enjoyable and nostalgic enough to make it worth watching, even for viewers that didn’t grow up with this. See more Zachary Z @RT54566217 Mar 20 A rollercoaster of a movie with its highs and lows. The beginning and middle were good, but the plot holes and disappointing, lackluster ending and climax definitely held the movie back. All the good build up in the beginning and middle were thrown out the window because of that ending. Credit to where credit is due, the movie has great visuals with a good buildup to a lackluster climax. The characters were quite different but still enjoyable. See more Read all reviews
