GIANT is the true story of Prince Naseem "Naz" Hamed's humble beginnings on the tough working class streets of Sheffield and his discovery by Brendan Ingle, himself a steel industry worker turned boxing trainer. Their unlikely partnership along with Naz's unorthodox style, cocky persona and sheer dominance in the ring propelled them to the top of boxing's elite and unprecedented levels of global superstardom, all in the face of the rampant Islamophobia and racism of 80's and 90's Britain.

Despite good performances from El-Masry and Brosnan, this fails to pack the heavyweight knockout punch it sorely needs. Judge’s decision: a narrow loss, on points.  Go to Full Review

The core (largely true) story is just about strong enough to keep the film on its feet through all 12 rounds. A narrow victory on points. Go to Full Review

For a film about a fighter who was famous for his footwork, this is disappointingly plodding stuff. Go to Full Review

Brosnan’s deeply felt performance adds compassion to a well-intentioned crowd-pleaser that otherwise struggles to land more emotional punches. Go to Full Review

Rather than focusing too much on events in the ring, Giant takes more of a behind the scenes approach to what—or who—helped Prince Naseem "Naz" Hamed to the top of the sport. Go to Full Review

Stephen C @bob25009 2d Based on a true story in 2 hours. See more andrew L @Andyandali1 Apr 22 Of course it’s a true story!! Fantastic, unique boxer, pity the man wasn’t/isn’t a very nice guy. Another money making exercise along the same lines as the NUMEROUS recent music biographies, rocket man, queen, bob marley, Bruce Springsteen etc etc etc. watched Naseem boxing in my youth. Grew to hate him in later life. Another yawn, pretty much fake film to make money, for, guess who…. See more Amar A @AmarAliWrites Apr 9 Though based on a fascinating real-life figure, "Giant" never quite engages or surprises. The mentor-protégé story is formulaic, emotional beats fall flat, and performances—while competent—don’t elevate the material. Accents and underdeveloped side characters can be distracting, and the film’s trajectory feels predictable. Ultimately, it’s forgettable, drifting through its narrative without leaving a lasting impression, making it the weakest of the four. See more Dan K @RT52849992 Mar 18 I’m a massive boxing fan and I followed Naz’s career so I was really looking forward to this film. It’s so bad, really poor acting and the fight scenes are terrible. The guy they cast as Naz is way too big. It all feels rushed and like they didn’t have the finance or proper research to make a decent film. Really disappointing See more Jacques V @Jacques116 Mar 12 Every now and then a sports movie comes along that reminds you why true stories hit harder than fiction. It steps into the ring with swagger, heart, and a powerful story about the rise of boxing superstar Prince Naseem "Naz" Hamed. Giant tells the story of British-Yemeni boxer Prince Naseem Hamed and his rise from a young fighter in Sheffield to one of the most electrifying personalities in boxing. Amir El-Masry delivers a fantastic portrayal of Prince Naseem. Pierce Brosnan brings warmth and depth to Brendan Ingle. His performance feels calm and authentic, grounding the story emotionally. The mentor-student dynamic between Ingle and Naz becomes the heart of the film. Giant carries a meaningful life lesson. At its core, the film reminds us that greatness rarely happens alone. Talent is important, but guidance, discipline, and the belief of a mentor can make all the difference. The film doesn’t just win the fight… it leaves the crowd cheering long after the final bell. 🥊 See more Les N @Vegas628 Mar 4 How much did Naseem Hamed contribute to this movie? Like everyone I had no idea that there was a disagreement between fighter and trainer, but just enjoyed Hamed fights. See more Read all reviews
