In 1892, legendary Army Capt. Joseph Blocker reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to their tribal land. Embarking on a harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, N.M., to the grasslands of Montana, they soon encounter a young widow whose family was killed on the plains. The travelers must now band together to survive a punishing landscape that's crawling with hostile Comanches and vicious outlaws.

Christian Bale gives a typically half-measured, half-intense performance of a character who is mostly pretty awful but whom Hostiles wants to redeem for no clear reason whatsoever.

HOSTILES was a movie based on the early America and the struggle between the indigenous people specifically the comanches and other tribes in western America in the mid to late 1800s. This is a story told from the perspective of the US cavalry and of survivors of Indian attacks during the early development of the American West. For the most part this film showed a glimpse of what it was like in life in early America as America moved westward. I recommend this film to children over 12 and to adults.

Hostiles has a good cast and cinematography. I like the genre of post-civil war conflicts with Native Americans. And Christian Bale speaks a native American language throughout. How awesome is that? But wow this film was grim from beginning to end. Hard to sit through at times.
