These two characters would be fascinating in a 20-minute short film; in a loose 102-minute feature that’s pretty much all talk, they — and we — grow weary at times.

Both Jagannathan and Brown are excellent at this combination therapy session/verbal joust, conveying their characters’ intelligence and affection for each other while also their capacity to conceal and deceive — especially themselves.

With all the build-up, the possibility of some kind of powder keg going off, whether in a big way or something more subtle, could have given this quiet drama more to think about afterward. As it stands, it’s nice, but it didn’t really show me much else.

All this would work just as well on a stage, and Griffiths doesn’t really do much with it to get beyond that, though she handles the actors well and there’s some nice set dressing and lighting. It’s still a gripping watch.

This is a really engaging film that follows an aunt who is a successful writer, and her nephew's (who has had a checkered public persona) weekend conversations about sexual expression for the aunt's upcoming book. The film is very well paced, and is captivating, helped by well timed animation breaks throughout. This is a must see film, thanks to the amazing performances by the two leads, extremely engrossing stories and dialogue by the writers, and put together artfully by the director. I look forward to future screenplays by these writers, such great material.
