While it is true that they were victims, the fact that many others suffered far greater harm because of them is only touched on very briefly. See more Calvin O @Caltus Oct 7 Good enough 😌 I would divide this anime into two parts: the first one was dedicated to the girl's early life, marriage and family. The second, the most emotional one, focuses on how simple citizens were affected by the war. The story itself is simple, with no as much of a surprise as to what will happen. But, because it's humane and simple, it captures the audience's attention. Easy to follow and easy to sympathise with the heroes, the movie doesn't overdo it with the war horrors, though the bombing scenes were too long. But, then again, maybe they had to in order to show what the civilians had to go through. I also enjoyed the fact that it wasn't just a historical film, but it also followed the girl's story and her relationship with her new family and her husband. One thing that didn't work for me, however, was that at some points the movie just rushed things and got a bit confusing, like showing one scene after the other. A really sad story that shows the struggle of a young girl from her childhood to her married life. Shows the horrors of the world war II of Japan. People becoming monsters and killing people. It is both incredibly sweet while at the same time being heartbreakingly devastating. There is very little action, the movie focuses on all the little things, Suzu preparing meals, shopping, drawing and sewing. It's a slice of life story with the most slices I've ever seen. The animation is some of the most beautiful I've seen. It capitalizes on the animation in a manner that this film would not work nearly as well if it was live action. Suzu herself is a great artist, thus we the audience get to see what great art can do. Gather from all corners of the world and watch this film. See more Read all reviews
