As the Fourth of July nears, satellite engineer David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) investigates a 3,000-mile-wide mother ship that's approaching Earth. Fortunately, 20 years earlier, nations across the world started to use recovered extraterrestrial technology to develop an immense defense program. When the alien invaders attack with unprecedented force, the U.S. president, teams of scientists and brave fighter pilots spring into action to save the planet from a seemingly invincible enemy.

The characters and their travails rarely, if ever, connect, and as such Independence Day: Resurgence is a handsomely produced, energetically paced waste of time that arguably never should have gone into production in the first place.

who wrote this script? Cause you suck at it. Terrible sequel to what was an instant classic. I'm not even going to pair this with the original. ugh I want my hours back and my memory erased. This movie should only be shown at 3:00am on reruns.

Didn't see this movie when it originally came out in 2016 because I heard it was terrible. Here I am 10 years later in 2026 watching it for the first time. It is indeed terrible. The writing is laughably bad. Huge mothership lands on Earth, full screen for about 20 seconds, and one guy goes "There's the mothership!" I'm shocked they got Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman to reprise their roles with this awful script/dialogue.

Sequel di cui non si sentiva necessariamente il bisogno e che soprattutto risulta essere un discreto fallimento nonostante tutte le buone intenzioni del suo regista. Paragonabile per certi versi alla parabola de "Il Gladiatore" il secondo atto è ovviamente epico dal punto di vista visivo con l'utilizzo della CGI e delle sequenze di azione veramente massivo; vengono anche riproposti alcuni degli attori del primo capitolo con ruoli differenti; nonostante tutto ciò, proprio come per l'altra saga appena citata, a mancare è l'empatia per i personaggi che provoca le emozioni fondamentali per un sequel di questo tipo. Non si percepisce nessuna simpatia per i personaggi ne tantomeno si capiscono le loro storie e i loro scopi; tutto questo non viene coperto dalle sequenze di azione che anzi sono davvero troppe e risultano essere noiose alla lunga. Un film con un intento interessante ma che non sfrutta il budget faraonico, che anzi diventa controproducente.
