Critics Consensus

Amy Adams is as appealing as ever, but her charms aren't enough to keep Leap Year from succumbing to an overabundance of clichés and an unfunny script.

Alex C @RT36129908 2d It’s easy to have a crush on Amy Adams, and it’s easy to put yourself in Matthew Goode’s shoes— who wouldn’t have a crush from afar? The reality is that Amy’s character is pretty scuzzy, possible sociopathic, all the while her hair is always perfect after countless bad weather days, and constant mishaps. I think maybe letting her hair down would have been the actual point of the film, yet they kept it Snow White primped. Honestly, meeting the hot girl at the bar isn’t always the best result. Sometimes, it’s better to romanticize this potential cool person: maybe funny, smart, humble, empathetic, charming, nice. Meeting real people— you never really get that, and this movie gives an accurate example of why looks are not the measure of true attraction. Find the person that looks at you the way you look at them. Find the person you want to be around all the time. The person that supports you when you’re not paying attention. Let this movie remind you of that. And keep crushing Amy Adams See more Karen F @foster.karen Mar 11 Must see! So cute! Don’t go by the old reviews. My punk rock boyfriend loved it too. See more maria p @maria671128 Feb 19 Absolutely loved it. Amy is such a great actress and Matthew is so handsome. I can not take my eyes from him. See more Mary F @MMcDF Jan 11 As an Irish person, this was just cringe on all levels. The main actor's Irish accent was brutal and ruined the film within a few minutes! The rest was very far fetched for modern Ireland. Too clichéd and boring tbh. See more E. C @IzzyB68 Dec 26 I'm familiar w/the primary actors & appreciate their respective bodies of work. Regardless, I am not a RomCom fan. Usually, I roll my eyes & seek shelter in the Sci-Fi/Horror genre(s). Still, every so often, I watch one & am pleasantly surprised. (Recently, I've uncharacteristically watched this one several times.) Amy's performance... Anna is someone that I can connect w/ on several levels. Her expressions & quirks are so adorable & funny! Amy's commitment to this role feels entirely genuine. I feel like I would be fortunate to have someone like her as a friend. Declan... I had no idea that I would be so drawn to this character. (I also wasn't prepared to suddenly find M.G. so incredibly appealing.) As he genuinely embraces his character, Matthew leaves little room to question his dedication to Declan's charm, humor & sensitivity. (I would LOVE to be friends w/ him.) Their commitment to character development, & their palpable chemistry bring it!! See more Noel L @RT15930389 Nov 29 This movie was The Matchmaker mixed with The Sure Thing. But the quality might've been lacking a bit See more Read all reviews
