After being unceremoniously dumped by her husband, 40-something divorcée Judith Moore (Holly Hunter) tries to make sense of her new existence. She becomes friends with Pat Francato (Danny DeVito), the elevator operator in her high-rise apartment building, who is having marital problems of his own. She also dabbles in a new romance with an attractive masseur, and lets loose in a nightclub ruled by a torch singer, Liz Bailey (Queen Latifah), with whom she soon connects.

What I enjoyed in Living Out Loud was the comfort of these lives flowing briefly in the same stream. The sense that the unexpected was free to enter the story, and would not be shouldered aside by the demands of conventional plotting.

Great movie, great acting, great music, deeply moving, relatable... Holly Hunter superbly understated and brilliant-check out the disco scene. The low ratings here and elsewhere which this movie got are baffling to everyone I know that has seen it. So, if you care about what this site thinks, more than what people like you may thing, skip it, but I don't suggest that you do so.
