David K @RT61474040 2d The problem here is that the production was clearly underfunded, using documentary footage for war action and re-used sets, never giving you a step-back, look at the conditions they're fighting in, feel for the film's subject. And I think it tries too hard to make MacArthur look better than he really was. Generals like Eisenhower and Marshall knew he was an egomaniac that was more interested in getting attention than anything else. In the end the movie does seem based on an abridged and condensed story, and it's just not particularly strong. I don't think the story's narrative really works, and it often feels boring and unengaging. I really only think this movie is accessible to history buffs who already know a lot about this person going into it. The one silver lining of the movie is that Gregory Peck is genuinely good in it, and his performance is easily a highlight.
