This is an upsetting film with an abrupt ending, but the feeling of despondence it imposes upon the audience is part of the point. Go to Full Review

With one foot planted in documentary exposé and the other in coming-of-age drama, the film falls short of satisfying the demands of either genre. Go to Full Review

Occasionally teeters onto the wrong side of a morality play... [but] it’s hard not to leave Manas punch-drunk and gutted. Go to Full Review

Manas has an almost documentary-like feeling which is heightened by natural, raw and heartfelt performances. Go to Full Review

It is a film about sisters —as the title suggests— and also about the demand for unity as a vital force to end the abuses rendered invisible by the tyranny of patriarchy. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The incredible direction of Marianna Brennard brings a full-throated story detailing the plight of not only the young women of the Marajó Islands of Brazil, but shines a spotlight on systemic abuse everywhere.
