However, these strong moments are isolated and don’t carry through the rest of the story. A major issue is the protagonist’s emotional detachment. Her disconnection from life dulls any attempt at tension or fear, making it hard to stay invested. Instead of pulling the viewer in, it creates distance. Ultimately, Monolith feels like a promising idea weakened by uneven storytelling and a lack of emotional impact. Her first and subsequent episodes deal with a mysterious brick that many have claimed to received. A wonderful meditation on isolation and responsibility. Sullivan is highly engaging as the only character on screen for the entire runtime. Her nameless character, titled the Interviewer, expresses many emotions throughout the film and Sullivan portrays them well. A slow build atmospheric tense mystery.
