Critics Consensus

Arguably well-intended yet thoroughly misguided, Mother's Day is the cinematic equivalent of a last-minute gift that only underscores its embarrassing lack of effort.

Even if stars Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts and Kate Hudson are mom's all-time favorites, don't subject her to this cloying, plotless dose of saccharine unless she's done you wrong. Go to Full Review

Noah H. @Noah85 20h A very cute, funny, and heartwarming movie, though there were a little too many characters for my liking. I would’ve preferred a smaller cast, but it was still a decent time overall. So far, this is my favorite Jennifer Aniston movie. John Debney’s score was great, and the Indian mother was HILARIOUS! 🤣🤣🤣 See more Deni S. @DeniseRae May 17 I thought it was cute and it made me laugh. The outstanding cast made it an enjoyable film! The plot was a bit thin but I was in the mood for something light hearted ans positive, it delivered. See more Tim F @RT18028662 May 17 Horrible, terrible really very bad movie. Takes a decent cast and makes them say stupid, predictable crap. See more Sebastian P @PS.Sebastian May 14 This movie felt like one of those workplace training videos that teach you how to react in different scenarios. Despite having a cast full of talented actors some of them actually among my favorites, the performances felt incredibly unnatural. I genuinely didn’t enjoy it at all. Everything was painfully predictable. There was barely any real character development, and the "funny" lines weren’t funny in the slightest. The child actors were especially terrible. Honestly, it felt like every actor was performing in a completely different movie. The whole thing had this weird, disconnected energy, like no one understood the same tone. And the extra details somehow made it worse. Julia Roberts’ wig looked awful. Did Walmart sponsor the wardrobe department? Were the extras underpaid? That wedding scene was genuinely unbearable also I wanted to look away the entire time. In the end, the only thing I liked about this movie was when it was over. See more parker M. @rpmoffett May 11 This is a prank right? See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch May 10 Mother’s Day is a fun and heartfelt ensemble comedy that blends multiple storylines together to create an entertaining and emotionally warm experience. The movie balances humor, family drama, romance, and friendship in a way that keeps the story moving while still allowing each character to have meaningful moments. The cast is one of the film’s biggest strengths. Julia Roberts brings humor and personality to her role as a wealthy, self-centered woman, even if her hairstyle throughout the movie is definitely distracting. Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Garner also help ground the film emotionally, making several of the storylines feel relatable and sincere. The screenplay keeps the different stories flowing smoothly, creating a steady mix of comedy and emotional moments that never become too heavy. While the film does not reinvent the genre, it understands exactly what it wants to be and fully embraces the feel-good atmosphere it is aiming for. See more Read all reviews
