By the time the noirish thriller "Naples in Veils" draws you into its enigmatic web - which is pretty much from the start - you're sufficiently invested to enjoyably coast through the rest of this hypnotic, if ambiguous, Italian import.

L'atmosfera e la trama sono totalmente offuscate da una lentezza tragicomica nei dialoghi, esasperati da lunghissimi primi piani sui volti dei protagonisti che cercano di riempire interi minuti. La sensazione è di uno stile ben chiaro e preciso, che qui però viene portato ad un livello tale da sembrare un semplice esercizio per l'esagerazione. Specialmente quando a farlo sono attori meno quotati, visibilmente forzati.

As always with Ozpetek, we are given a beautiful picture, mysterious, dark, sensual, alluring - after all, the film is dedicated to Naples. The plot is intriguing, if not entirely credible - but then, that's not really the point, I guess. And the music!! Unsettling, full of longing and passion, just like the film itself.
