On Her Majesty's Secret Service remains a fine bond film. Where the story is not super engaging and the film overall does feel long, George Lazenby is fun enough as Bond and the story is just clean enough to where you can get a bit invested in it.

Inutile negare che l'assenza di Sean Connery pesi immensamente sul carisma e la potenza del protagonista, nettamente meno dotato di talento recitativo e quindi di aura. Nonostante questo, la sceneggiatura molto interessante e le location sempre spettacolari, riescono pienamente a sopperire a questa carenza, offrendo un risultato assolutamente di spessore. Mezzo punto in più per il finale drammatico, che in futuro sarà più volte rilanciato, tanto da diventare peculiare nel personaggio, e che deve a questo capitolo le sue origini.

Why George Lazenby failed to fill the shoes of the iconic Agent 007 is partly a mystery. The story does fulfil its purpose, just like the previous instalments, were it not for the absence of the typical gadgets and the atypical but tragic final act. Nothing is lost by watching it out of curiosity.

Possibly the best Bond movie. The love story is genuinely romantic and Blofeld's evil psychedelic hypnosis plan to distribute a virus via an international group of brainwashed young women is the kind of thing that I wish these movies did more of. Lazenby is a good James Bond actually, he has a kind of quiet melancholy that adds convincing depth to the character. Also the tragic ending is still surprising and heartbreaking.

Only Bond appearance for Lazenby. And a solid one it was. It helped that the supporting cast had Telly Savalas as Blofeld and Diana Rigg as Tracy, the one who finally wins 007’s heart. Decent plot as well.
