"Outcome" is a dark comedy that centers on Reef Hawk (Keanu Reeves), a beloved Hollywood star who must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after he is extorted with a mysterious video that's sure to shatter his image and end his career. With the support of his lifelong besties Kyle (Cameron Diaz) and Xander (Matt Bomer), along with his crisis lawyer Ira (Jonah Hill), Reef embarks on a soul-searching journey to make amends with anyone he could have possibly wronged in hopes of identifying the blackmailer. Co-writer and director Hill brings a unique lens to Reef's wild but spiritually cleansing, nostalgic and eye-opening trip down memory lane, where confronting his past might be the only way to rescue his future.

Critics Consensus

Outcome collapses under its own ambitions, playing as a garish, tonally erratic and heavy-handed satire that fumbles its intriguing ideas about stardom in an overlong and largely unfunny jumble of wasted talent.

With Hill as Reef’s abrasive lawyer, the film veers between crude and cuddly. Watch it for Reeves’ heartfelt reaction shots and Martin Scorsese’s small but perfectly played role. Go to Full Review

It’s hard to imagine this mumbling, shambling man holding multiplex masses in his thrall. As such, he’s a poignant void, but a void nonetheless, and even at a slim 84 minutes, Hill’s doleful film can’t keep us interested in his plight. Go to Full Review

Maybe Jonah Hill is sorry for everything that he’s done. Maybe Outcome is the only way he knows how to express his apologies. Go to Full Review

Outcome is a film that starts and finishes at nearly the same place, with an 80 minute runtime - not enough encourages one to go through this turbulent experience within the bounds of Hollywood. Go to Full Review

One wonders if Hill the director shouldn’t have reined in Hill the character actor a touch more, in order to give Outcome a more consistent tone. Go to Full Review

John L @LavenMD 1d I really enjoyed this movie. It started playing on Apple TV, and I began to watch without expectation having not even seen a trailer for it beforehand. The character depth was excellent, and I found myself genuinely caring about the characters. I followed the same emotional journey observing Reef, first seeing him as a nervous lonely star clinging to a new life found in sobriety. Then his narcissism became painfully obvious, and it became difficult to watch him hurt those around him. Then this magic moment that is so rare…a narcissist who suddenly realizes it and wants to change…and then DOES. It was deeply moving. And the underlying themes of "performance" throughout before that magic moment…Reef’s mother, and Ira, and others…and Reef too of course. The ending has more meaningful depth as a result. Not sure why critics ratings are low…I really enjoyed it. See more Kailette M @RT36071349 2d I did like the message of the movie I give it that. A bit boring jonah hill character just no. The fake beach green sceeens really annoyed me, can they not afford to shoot near an actual beach. See more Joan K @RT74047805 3d Jonah Hill’s ridiculous performance kind of ruined it for me. See more Craig B @RT53908938 3d I thought this was a really good movie. It actually had a message you can learn from, act on, and use to improve your life, which is f'ing rare these days. Kudos to Jonah Hill for both his acting and writing, definitely award-level content and performance by him, but what do I know? I feel like I understand a little more about how to live a good life after watching this. I really appreciated the message and humanity this movie conveyed. I'm a little shocked by the negativity of some of the other reviews. Maybe they missed the message? Anyway, I liked it very much. Would recommend to non-jerks. See more Kar L @RT80921905 4d Top notch cast in an entertaining & off beat film. Cam & Keanu reunited as Feeling MN.. Matt Bomer always a joy. See more David D @RT56332835 6d Funny, as I rushed to rotten tomatoes to see how this movie was received, and was truly surprised by the negative response. I personally found the movie quite touching and Mr. Reeves performance one of his most true and sincere. There was definitely some parts that were not particularly necessary, but they all seem to serve the story well. I think Mr. Hill should be proud of his film and the questions it asked and answers. I felt better for having watched it. I believe its merits will become ever more evident with time. See more Read all reviews
