What to Know

Critics Consensus

Passengers proves Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence work well together -- and that even their chemistry isn't enough to overcome a fatally flawed story.

Passengers takes what could have been an interesting debate about consent and glosses it over with cheesy romance and problematic sex. Go to Full Review

Its science-fiction premise about lovers in space starts with promising questions, but soon approaches a horizon that lacks depth and is lost, from the beginning, in a black hole of clichés. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

William S. @RT74594996 4d A solid flick. I enjoyed it and have seen it a couple times. It presents a very interesting moral problem and explores it pretty well. See more Rowan M. @MagmaRPM 5d Flawed but enjoyable for the most part See more Simcha K @HappyLion 6d I think most people totally miss the point about the movie. It is not about a relationship; it is about the power of forgiveness. The male lead does something very bad, and when the female lead discovers it, she is justifiably angry at him. But rather than become defensive, the male lead accepts his punishment. I think the most powerful scene is where she threatens to kill him and he offers himself up. It helps to watch the extra where Jennifer Lawrence points out that her character really had no plan for her life. She then finds herself in a situation where she can hold a grudge and make life miserable and meaningless for herself and one other, or find the power to forgive and build a meaningful life. I was moved by the film. I know that Pratt, being Christian, was probably going for an undeserved forgiveness, since that is a cornerstone of Christianity, but the male lead risks his life for the benefit of strangers, which by my Jewish background, says he earned forgiveness. See more Frodo B @RT15383592 May 9 Spoiler alert!! I have seen so many unjust, negative reviews on this movie. While the plot presents an unethical dilemma that many would not want to pursue, the story beautifully portrays the human struggle; the human mind physically cannot endure isolation. It also displays the fundamental nature of romance; everyone boards their own ship when they meet their partner, and they choose their paths together from that point onwards. Near the ending, they encounter a two-person issue. If Jim did not wake Aurora up, she and the rest of the crew would have lost their lives anyway. Besides, Jim offered Aurora the opportunity to go back into hibernation, and regain the opportunity to live the life she had purposed herself to live, but she chose to stay with him. Overall, the plot was genius. See more Romas M @Romas May 9 Greetings from Lithuania. "Passengers" (2016) has to be one of the best guilty pleasure movies I've ever seen. I can understand why it got so many negative reviews from critics and viewers, and you kinda have to leave your believes behind the door when you will watch this movie, because there are some "how can that be?" moments in this movie, but they are far and in between for a what beautiful, original (!) and simply great this movie is. The premise is original, and kinda fresh - and this comes from a science fiction genre fan. Acting was very good by all involved (i won't spoil how many faces). Script as well directing was very involving - at running time almost 2 hours i was engaged into this story more that i could have possibly imagined at the beginning. Overall, "Passengers" is a terrific Sci-Fi entertainment. See more Darren B. @DarrenB155RottenTomatoes May 4 A story about the power of love, forgiveness and perseverance! Fated to be together, if he doesn't wake her, then she couldn't save him. And of course, the rest of the innocent passengers! See more Read all reviews
