For two years, security guard Ben has tried to convince James, a veteran cop, that he is worthy of James' sister, Angela. When Ben is finally accepted into the police academy, James decides to test his mettle by inviting him along on a shift deliberately designed to scare the trainee. However, events take an unexpected turn when their wild night leads to Atlanta's most-notorious criminal and Ben's rapid-fire mouth proves as dangerous as the bullets whizzing by them.

Kevin Hart's livewire presence gives Ride Along a shot of necessary energy, but it isn't enough to rescue this would-be comedy from the buddy-cop doldrums.

In a way, it's almost too easy because "Ride Along" becomes entirely too cliche and predictable to really appreciate. It's in one ear and out the other.

Some elements were cheesy or unnecessary but it plays to the strengths of both Hart and Ice Cube. Again, forgive it’s traditional flaws and you can enjoy this movie for what it was. And for January, Ride Along is more than serviceable.

Ride Along plays out like the buddy action comedy that Ice Cube and Chris Tucker never made outside of the Friday franchise. Instead of Tucker, though, Ice Cube is paired with the equally excitable loudmouth Kevin Hart.

I went into Ride Along (2014) hoping for a fun, energetic buddy comedy, but it ends up feeling tired and predictable. The humor leans heavily on loud, over-the-top moments instead of clever writing, and most of the jokes miss the mark. The chemistry between the leads should carry the film, but it feels forced rather than natural. Instead of building genuine comedic tension, the movie relies on repetitive gags that quickly wear thin. The story itself is very formulaic, offering nothing new or interesting. It follows a familiar path without adding any fresh twists or memorable moments. Overall, Ride Along feels like a missed opportunity. It had potential but settles for being noisy instead of funny. Gave it a 2/10.
