Robin Hood is a modern retelling that puts its own spin on a familiar story, and for what it is, it works. A lot of the criticism seems to come from people going in with overly high expectations or comparing it too closely to older versions. If you allow it to stand on its own as an adaptation. My main critique would be Jamie Foxx’s character. The performance wasn’t bad, but it felt like it could have been tightened up. There were moments of overacting that slightly pulled me out of the film, though not enough to derail it. I’ve also seen complaints about the wardrobe, but nothing stood out to me as distracting or immersion-breaking. I wasn’t watching with a hyper-focus on costumes, and nothing felt glaringly off. Overall, I enjoyed the movie, my daughter enjoyed it as well, and I’d recommend it, just don’t expect a masterpiece. Take it for what it is, and it’s a fun, modern take on Robin Hood See more Matrix K @ZanderDarko666 Dec 13 It's a good pop fun type of film, I loved the beginning with robin hood being in foreign lands and they mix it with sword in shield and what feels like American soldiers mash up using / carrying arrows like guns, No it's not godfather or Schindler lists but it's more popcorn fun like the mummy or 13th warrior these type of films that you can switch off your movie brain and have fun. See more MCM B Nov 10 I suspect that many who "despise" this movie are offended by the negative portrayal of the Church, Clergy, and the Crusades. The level of money & power greed portrayed is actually not far off the mark through most of history. The weird mix of costume styles was inconsistent enough to draw you out of the story (especially the big party scene), and it's certainly not perfect. But I enjoyed it, and I felt like the background info was indeed deeper and held more social commentary. I'm not really into action movies, but the sequences seemed fairly imaginative to me, and it was an easy watch. See more Read all reviews
