Rich S @RPS1963 Dec 31 There are a few good reasons to watch the story of Stephen Glass, the subject of Shattered Glass. It's a factual account of Glass and his short time at The New Republic. He is outed as a fabricator of his own made-up stories and, ultimately, a flat-out liar. Without knowing him, that's how I perceive him to be. Director Billy Ray and writer Buzz Bissinger take an interesting view on the story. They make Glass (Hayden Christensen) the storyteller. He is the guest speaker in a classroom where he learned how to be a Journalist. There he tells the story of his short career at The New Republic. The cast is excellent and includes a few gems like Rosario Dawson and Melanie Lynskey. Peter Sarsgaard is Chuck Lane, the editor and foil for Glass. Hank Azaria is the former boss who gives Glass his excuse to be so bold as to lace everything he writes with lies. It’s an interesting, short, office drama. Acting is good and something we can all partially relate to. We all know a charlatan at work. Enjoyed and watched on Amazon Prime. See more Ed . @RT01276001 Aug 29 Flattered brass, rep a tattered morass. I regret never putting Jukt Micronics on my resume. Sycophant Stephen must have been a psychiatrist's dream patient. When you've concocted one phony story you'd feel guilty. When you've made up a few you're like a serial killer who can't stop. In hindsight if you read any of his stories it's so obviously BS you wonder how any editor could have fallen for them. But they did, time and time again. If only the Glasshole could have come up with the equivalent of a Bobby Ewing dream episode to save himself. Great performances by Hayden, Chloe and Peter. It’s a character-centric story that focuses on deception, ethics, and the pressure journalists face in a competitive industry. Overall, I liked Shattered Glass. It’s a decent film — not one I’d rush back to watch again, mainly because it’s heavy on dialogue and light on action. But that’s something you should expect going in; this isn’t a thriller with dramatic set-pieces — it’s a slow, deliberate story about fraud and the people it affected. It’s worth a watch once, especially if you’re interested in true stories about media and ethics, but it’s not a film I’d revisit frequently. I thought the two leads did a good job, Christensen was really good. But it was more of a slow burn that never got very bright.
