05/09/2022 It was a good premise but the writing was a bit eh. The whole local "hood" giving out info ( and anyone lsitening to him. Eye roll) And the white reporter saving the day. I mean the cops were on point. Theyre blind to any reality and they dont care who dies as long as theyre heroes to their own egos. Was it based in real life in the 80s or a rwal story? Not sure. It wasnt deep, it just was. It was more of a blame this guy, blame that guy movie. Just no real depth of characters. You never got to know anyone so it was hard to have feelings for them. Also they should have made the ending include her a bit more. Overall it was something to watch. I also woukd have named a lot more kids in the end. And put up some pics. 5 stars for the acting especially the family the brother was in point with his crying the parents were convincing. See more Ken R @RT36478503 11/08/2021 Having good intentions is not always a guarantee of making a good movie - unless you are good at what you do. ‘Still here' looked promising on paper but comes in as a difficult watch on many levels - including, messy editing, direction, photography, and a poorly realized script - featuring very few convincing situations and many unfocused characters. It comes across as another excuse to push the agenda of the unhelpful law and its big bad white guy type policing...offering little more than supposition to back up its accusations. Then, as if attempting to add some form of balance, one of the white detectives is shown in a detailed scene having an unexplained change of heart – but, his epiphany results in changing nothing, next we see of him he's right back to his nasty ol self. These types of character inconsistencies continue across the board. Most acting belongs to the over the top school of expression – while some of this might sometimes work, overall, it's ultimately tiresome. The story is claimed as based on facts but these ‘facts' tend to come across as manufactured and mostly unbelievable (especially the resolution). Pity, as it offers the odd good line, and might have been better if given a sure-handed approach. A pile-on of endless foul language adds nothing to the general proceedings. See more 03/08/2021 A challenging, sad and true story about an issue we often see on the news, but still we are unfamiliar with. The movie is advertised and reviewed mostly as a story about racism and injustice, but all I could see was the story about the love a father has for his daughter, the story about a family going through a dark moment of their existence with good and bad. The decisions taken by the family will be questioned all along the film but I guess that is what makes this piece so honest and raw, the fact that we are different and everybody will act and behave different from each other. The acting was great by McRae specially who plays the father but the rest of the cast builds a strong assembly. As well loved the beautiful cinematography and music. I read in other reviews that the ending feels rushed and I agree with that but as well I question if that was not a deliberate choice in order to keep our focus on the family. Same like I did, I know that many of the viewers will identify themselves with characters from this film and maybe that is the strongest hook of the film. I loved the premise and the acting. It is an intense ride and deep experience. I feel very grateful this movies is out, watch it, it will only make you more human.
