I appreciated this much more than most zombie movies, thanks mostly to its unique plot. See more Claire T @RT36815111 Aug 23 I loved this zombie movie! Had a completely different take on the typical zombie movies. It focuses on the return to life after an “outbreak”, but with the focus on the cured usually zombie movies are focusing on finding the cure, but this take is finding the cure and what happens if the cure works (mainly). It delves into if it did work, what happens to those cured and how they assimilate into life again - loved it and it made sense. It didn’t take an easy way out as the ending. I only wish they made a sequel! When a cure is found, 75% of the infected are cured but with recollections of what they did; However, 25% remains infected and are called “the Resistant”. The Cured are discriminated by the society, treated as second-class citizens and sent to low-paid jobs like cleaners. Senan (Sam Keeley) and his only friend Conor (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor) are reintegrated to the society and Senan’s sister-in-law Abbie (Ellen Page) welcomes him at home in Dublin to live with her young son Cillian (Oscar Nolan) and she. However, Conor is rejected by his father since he killed his mother and assigned to work of cleaner. Conor, who was a lawyer from the upper-class and politician, convinces several Cured to promote havoc to call the attention of the society, and tries to bring Senan’s to his cause. But Senan has a secret that only Conor knows that will affect their relationship. “The Cured” (2017) is an original Irish zombie drama movie by David Freyne. The plot is more social than horror, with a different approach to the aftermath of a zombie epidemic. I believe this is the unique film where zombies have a possibility of healing their infection and the rejection of the society for those who killed family and friends. Ellen Page performs a widow who accepts her brother-in-law living with her until the moment she learns that he has killed her beloved husband Luke. The conclusion is ambiguous, with Senan carrying his infected nephew in the arms since Dr. Joan Lyons was murdered. My vote is seven. This is a somewhat dark and realistic idea of what would happen if zombies were cured and were forced to reassimilate back into society. Things go about as bad as you'd expect and the main antagonist who also happens to be one of said cured infected is surprisingly menacing and convincing in his role. I absolutely love the idea of the infected being able to remember every morbid crime they committed while under the influence of the virus, it opens up the possibility to really dwell into the mental anguish and regret of the characters who have been cured of the affliction. A lot of people seem to really dislike the open ended and unresolved ending of the film but i think it's meant to represent the unsure future of all of humanity and their relationship with the formerly infected individuals, I think it's a nice change of pace from the usual happy ending... not everything is sunshine and daisies people!
