What to Know

Critics Consensus

A rare film that surpasses the quality of its source novel, this Devil is a witty expose of New York's fashion scene, with Meryl Streep in top form and Anne Hathaway more than holding her own.

It's Meryl's movie, everyone says, and in a way it is. She gives a furiously funny performance as a furiously nasty bit of work... But, as I said earlier, scenes without her suffer horribly. Go to Full Review

An agreeably shallow comedy. Go to Full Review

Makes one pine for any comparable '50s working-girl comedy (or, for that matter, 1988's Working Girl). Go to Full Review

The Devil Wears Prada takes you on a wild ride through a rarefied world, where the punchlines are still as fresh as florals, even if Miranda would snarl that they’re hardly groundbreaking for spring. Go to Full Review

Torin F @nonlinearize 2d THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA remains a classic for a reason: it succeeds at the level of breezy dramedy and fashion scene sendup, while always functioning more subtly at the level of something deeper, akin to a redemptive fairytale. See more Catherine D. @CatherineOrozco 2d Fun, funny, and stylish. A great peek into this industry. A movie that lifts you and makes you want to put your best on! See more Chris M @RT22346841 2d A lot better than I was expecting, even with the great cast. See more Fetti T @Fetti918 5d It definitely appeals to a certain type of humour and plays like a future classic - even if its wit comes across rather lackluster at times. It's not the most entertaining or thoughtful film out there, but it plays good enough to warrant your attention and the performances are great - especially from its foremost stars. See more Susie G @RT14798251 5d Pretty good, pretty funny, but not really a good movie fo look up to. But I'm not saying it's bad. But anne hathaway slays it See more Jack L @RT22102532 5d I had long wondered why The Devil Wears Prada was viewed as such a classic, especially since I am absolutely not the target audience and know next to nothing about the fashion industry it is based around. Yet I found myself completely engrossed because the film works so well as a character study, with Andy serving as such an interesting portrait of a woman slowly losing herself to ambition, and Anne Hathaway does a fantastic job portraying that internal conflict in a way that makes her impossible not to sympathize with. Miranda Priestly, meanwhile, acts as the perfect foil — someone entirely consumed by ambition — and watching the two women find and lose common ground throughout the film is genuinely compelling. On top of all that, the movie is consistently funny, has a great soundtrack, and absolutely earns its reputation as a film I would recommend. See more Read all reviews
