The Drama is not a tidy film from any angle. Its themes are extreme and uncomfortable. Its director’s past actions are more than questionable. But if audiences are willing to keep an open mind and engage with it, it will reward on a massive scale.

It's not as strange or absurd as it could’ve been, and lands somewhere in the middle, not enough one thing or the other. Mid is an apt description for The Drama, which is neither offensive nor tremendous.

I'm so glad this film exists. Big swing. Really works when it works. Zendaya leveled up with her performance. Loved the ending in a way that makes me like the film even better. Borgli needs to keep getting these chances to make original films. Go see it!

Oh I really liked this. I think treating the twist with a dark comedy element instead of engaging it super seriously actually makes it more effective. A conversation can be had about that conceit: if someone has a terrible thought but doesn’t act on it and redeems themselves, are they terrible? Can we continue to love them in spite of it all. Zendaya and R-Patz are fantastic. Truly two actors right now that I genuinely enjoy seeing in pretty much anything. It’s all about the little tics and expressions and reactions to things that really make them standout as some of this generation’s best. A solid supporting cast helps make this even better. I am really beginning to like Borgli’s work. This and Dream Scenario have a real audaciousness to them and paired with A-list talent, he really gets a lot of bang for his buck. Really liked this one!
