THE IN BETWEEN is a supernatural love story that centers on a teenage girl, Tessa (Joey King), who, after bouncing around in foster homes for most of her childhood, doesn't believe she deserves her own love story. Everything changes after she has a chance encounter with Skylar (Kyle Allen), a senior from a neighboring town who's a true romantic. As her heart begins to open, tragedy strikes when a car accident takes Skylar's life, while Tessa survives. As Tessa searches for answers in the aftermath of the accident, she soon believes Skylar is attempting to reconnect with her from the afterworld. With the help of her best friend and a newfound belief that love never dies, Tessa attempts to contact Skylar one last time, in order to give their love story the epic ending it deserves.

When I selected this movie on a random Monday for something to watch, I had no idea it was going to evoke such deep emotion. This genuinely moved me when I was least expecting it. Highly recommend

The In Between is a surprisingly compelling romantic drama that works better than expected, especially given modest expectations going in. Joey King delivers a stronger performance than anticipated, showing emotional restraint and growth compared to some of her earlier work. The core premise, centered on a tragic car accident and a boyfriend trapped between life and death, is genuinely interesting and emotionally effective. The film blends romance and supernatural elements in a way that feels accessible, creating moments that are both sad and heartfelt. While the pacing isn’t perfect and engagement dips at times, the direction does a solid job keeping the story moving forward. The In Between isn’t a must-watch or a film begging for rewatches, but it succeeds as a tender, bittersweet experience that ultimately feels worth the time.

Just finished 'The In Between' and country to some of the more harsh reviews, I found it to be a beautiful coming of age story that captivated the feelings of feeling lonely and unable to trust yourself and your emotions. As Tessa comes to the realization and understands not only her grief but her feelings of neglect and abandonment; that it leads her to understanding herself and coming into her own. This movie is a great adaptation of the personification of love and puts to screen how adolescence deal with tough emotions as they come of age. Overall, highly recommend this chilling movie if looking for a great tear jerker and love story.
