A rookie member of an elite team of commandos, Rama (Iko Uwais) is instructed to hang back while his comrades-in-arms go ahead with their mission to take down a brutal crime lord called Tama (Ray Sahetapy). However, the team's cover is blown, and Tama offers sanctuary to every criminal in his high-rise apartment block in exchange for the cops' heads. Now Rama must take command and lead his remaining team on an ultraviolent charge through the building to complete -- and survive -- the mission.

It’s a one-trick pony that doesn’t change but that trick is some of the most unrelenting action that pushes the possibilities of choreographed fight scenes. The score builds a feeling that death can be waiting around every corner. Such a gritty, dirty, depressing set that matches the themes perfectly. The pacing is unique in how it allows for subtle character development. There is a kill that involves a broken door that did something to my brain that rarely happens & consistently plays in my mind.

A good work has been done in this film. I like the Pencak Silat martial art how it is applied as well. Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian show how Pencak Silat is effective in close combat. The scene where they fight is done wonderfully. Every single movement of fights is noticed and catches the viewer's eye.
