Torben E @Torben 1d After 30 minutes or so I was almost shocked that I liked this movie. Normally, I'm not into light-minded silly action flicks with disposable, predictable storylines BUT this one is so much fun...and it works beautifully because it never tries to be more than a funny, dumb, action-packed buddy-movie AND because Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa have incredible screen chemistry, combined with witty dialogues. I was also very happy to see Morena Baccarin in this movie, especially because her character was the opposite of a damsel in distress. She and Momoa also have amazing on-screen chemistry and so the whole movie simply works. Yes, there are some flaws...the occasional cheap CGI, a very simple background story, some of the action scenes were not really groundbreaking and it's also noticeable that Dave Bautista is not young anymore and obviously can't move as fast as he used to...BUT nevertheless this movie remains the perfect choice for an entertaining movie night (with beer and chips.) The movie doesn’t take itself too seriously, the action is solid without excessive cgi; the banter was pretty funny; and this actually had a decent plot: I’d love to see these two and the other side kick they picked up in a sequel. See more Sheree B @SBrea May 2 Stick with it, the comedy comes out the further along it goes, and the plot comes together nicely by the end. Love that there's only strong, proud brown skinned actors leading this film, barely a white face to be seen, the cast is magnificent and the film industry seems to be finally representing! The cast is made up of Japanese, Kiwi, Hawaiian, Pawnee, Philipino... it's just awesome! There's a really powerful scene towards the end between Bautista's character and his children, superbly acted by all three. Mamoa's character is incredibly annoying but redeems himself somewhat. Coming off of watching Stathom's Shelter last night, only made this movie so much better to Shelter's terribleness. See more Tony G @TonyGman May 1 This was a lot more fun than I thought it would be.
