The main character is a goddamn creep. Moreover, I'd love to believe that someone who has lost their mind is not considered to be funny. The cherry on top: the characters poems are horrible and meaningless. Just like all the things he's talking about throughout the movie. Their need to fit a film or an actor into a clearly defined category can cause them all to completely miss the point. These are some of the same people who called "The Martian" a musical comedy. Most of the professional reviews are based on narrow-minded presumptions about the characters, or the actors, or the genre itself. Their lack of insight and creativity shows why they are critics and not creators. This movie is not a "mad-cap comedy" or a typical romance. It is certainly not a historical drama. To me, it is a light-hearted tragedy about a man with very few obviously redeemable characteristics, whose annoying narcissistic obsession conceals his own selfless devotion to others, sometimes from others, and sometimes from himself. It weaves between being frustrating, funny, annoying, inspiring, heart-wrenching, heart warming, devastating and hopeful. If you view it like an editor or a film critic, then you miss the experience. But judging by the audience reaction, most people are able to see the beauty of this work. It is too deep a film for those whose job is to be either unimpressed or offended. But for thoughtful members of the human race, this is a brilliant and inspiring film with lessons, humour and hope for all. See more 10/13/2019 A passionate story that shows a poetic meaning of love. I have watched this film several times with different people, and we loved it every time. This is a tragic-comedy that is relatable and inspiring.
