See more Alain E @AlainE 01/29/2025 I am giving up at the 26 minute mark. First we see a family driving in a minivan and arriving at a rural house. When they unlock they discover an armed man with his own family has taken residence in their house. The two men, as it is expected, are discussing the situation while Isabelle Huppert, the wife in the minivan, remains silent. I started thinking how she has top billing if the men do all the talking and at that time the armed man shoots the other dead. I promise not to have any more questions. Huppert with her two children is allowed to escape. Something is going on because nobody is friendly, but we are not told what. Then her own son disappears in the middle of the night. Still we are not told what is going on. Sorry, but life is too short to watch all the pseudo serious movies out there. See more Petros T @PetrosTserpelis 08/13/2021 The bleakness of Haneke's post-apocalyptic "Le temps du loup" certainly gets a point across, but it's unfortunate that he makes it really hard for the viewer to care. The movie's focus is so all-over-the-place that you can't help but feel that the characters are sorely neglected: you know almost nothing about them, since everything - even the one attempt at exposition - seems fragmentary (occasionally as if scenes are missing) and what prevails is passivity and total communication breakdown. See more dave s @RT68722908 03/19/2021 Michael Haneke's Time of the Wolf is a film that doesn't try to manipulate the viewer, choosing to simply show the events and let the audience react accordingly. A mother (Isabelle Huppert) and her two children roam the French countryside in search of potable water, food, and shelter after an undisclosed apocalyptic event has altered society. Haneke allows the camera to linger on subjects in lengthy shots designed to allow the viewer to formulate their emotions and absorb the enormity of the life altering events. From the beginning, the film has a languid pace which may bother some, but other than the movie becoming a bit murky and meandering during the train station scenes towards the end, it is a relentlessly interesting look at how humanity survives in the face of disaster. See more 01/14/2021 I was done watching it when the horses were killed like that. I didn't need to see that on a Thursday night. It gets a little too heavy at times, I mean there's no moment of relief; and I'm not saying it should have comic relieves or anything... it's just very pessimistic. All the time.
