See more Mason M @RT73597940 09/08/2024 Around a year and a half ago was when I first watched To The Stars, and I didn't think much of it. I thought it was pretty good, but nothing special. But in that year and a half since then, it's always been on my mind. I always think about this film, I don't know why, I didn't even like the film that much, but something about it made it always come up in my head. So I finally decided to rewatch it, and wow. I definitely didn't fully get the complexity of this film on the first watch because To The Stars may very well be one of the best films of our time. It's such a lovingly crafted study of this town and its people, with every character having just as many layers as the leads. The side characters in this film are more interesting and complex than many protagonists in other movies. The film's main strength is its melancholic and dreamy atmosphere that fully puts you in the world of the film. The film is phenomenally made, with tons of stunning cinematography, and one of my personal favorites uses of music in film. Kara Hayward's performance as Iris is also outstanding, bringing what could've been a more simple character to life. The film is something I rarely see in movies, it's a criticism of small towns and suburbia that still manages to show the magic and beauty in our day to day lives. But most importantly, this film made me feel something, it made me feel immense emotions for these characters and their lives, which is the main thing a film should do. To The Stars is a modern day masterpiece that's made with an abundant amount of sincerity and emotion that most films could only dream of.
