B R @RT31795755 4d I had avoided this movie as I didn't think Isaac Hayes could carry the movie and thought it was going to just be put out because the studio wanted the sound track album. I was completely wrong, it has a good plot, good script, Isaac Hayes was able to look natural, and Yaphet Kotto is as cool and smooth as you expect him to be. Plus Nichelle Nichols is great in a small but important part. Truck Turner and his partner are skip tracers and get caught in the middle of a war among the pimps in the city for dominance. If you go into the movie just looking for a straight forward gang/crime/cop movie you will love this. To pull this off they need a strong villain and at first there doesn't seem to be one but it just plays out that Yaphet is the main villain and he elevates the movie. The smooth and silk Isaac Hayes is the eponymous "Mack" Truck Turner, working with his partner Jerry played by Alan Weeks, as they comb the City of Angels for bail jumpers. When they take down a notorious pimp named Gator after an extensive chase (including an amazing set piece through a water treatment plant near LAX), it touches off a war with the rest of the adult services executives in the area, including the lead Madam played by Star Trek's own Nichelle Nichols, in a role that is delightful and 180 degrees from her role on the Enterprise. Yaphet Kotta takes the role of the Big Bad, and their final confrontation is beautifully filmed, albeit brutal. Throw in Scatman as an aging pimp/sage for just the icing on the cake. It is about a bounty hunter who discovers a contract has been put out on him and must go on the run. Isaac Hayes and Nichelle Nicholls give decent performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Jonathan Kaplan did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the action. See more Read all reviews
