I now find Cruise tolerable only when he's in a movie that undercuts or ridicules his narcissism--as Eyes Wide Shut did and as this movie does even more noticeably.

Vanilla Sky is nearly identical to the 1997 Spanish film it's based on, except it's set in Manhattan instead of Madrid and has a much better soundtrack.

Frankly, I find it a tiring and unbearably dull film starring Tom Cruise, one that makes me want to close my eyes when it descends into the abyss of psychological thriller and speculative science fiction. [Full review in Spanish]

If the star and director are (kind of) worrying about the same middle-age falloff, Crowe’s specific fears are more compelling to me and responsible for what, intellectually, is the movie’s most fascinating idea.

The movie is great beginning to end. You never actually really know what’s going on until the very end, and if you like movies like that then this one is for you. Tom’s acting was great i could barely even make myself understand that it was him as the character. Great movie and i definitely recommend it.

Don’t listen to the bad reviews. Tom Cruise’s character is definitely a sociopath and very hateable but this movie is incredible soundtrack is gorgeous and a definite must see

Truly heartbreaking. I loved Vanilla Sky, but i understand why some other people hate it. (Acting, Tom Cruise's narcissist character, and the sci-fi cryo and lucid dream plot) but for me, a Oscar nominee for Vanilla Sky made it worth it. The film depicts insecurity, tragedy, pain, and the most important: Love.
