Critics Consensus

Providing Alan Ritchson an ideal vehicle to flex his brawny charisma, War Machine occasionally clanks when it comes to character depth but otherwise soldiers on to deliver an awesome dose of action spectacle.

2.5/5
It's a science-fiction survival film – the Ranger candidates are carrying blanks – with trace elements of Transformers, Battleship, and Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Somewhat derivative, but modestly enjoyable. Go to Full Review
Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter Mar 9
The film’s R rating is well-deserved thanks to the profusion of burnt and dismembered bodies on view in the alien machine’s wake. Unfortunately, the screenplay by Hughes and co-writer James Beaufort leaves much to be desired. Go to Full Review

It makes for a slicker-than-usual streaming premiere, an easy, drink-your-way-through-it Friday night option for those who wish to remain entirely unchallenged. Go to Full Review
Connor Petrey Pop Culture Leftovers May 17
War Machine is spoiled by a severe lack of tension and while literally everyone is on the table for the slaughter, the kills by this extraterrestrial lifeform become repetitive before it even begins… Go to Full Review
James Croot The Post NZ May 5
While thankfully this is no Battlefield Earth, Battle: Los Angeles or Battleship, War Machine doesn’t really offer up many surprising beats as a fairly predictable scenario plays out. Go to Full Review

War Machine is one of the most agonizingly boring films in recent memories, reveling in its garden-variety elements while failing to take advantage of what little novelty it does possess. Go to Full Review

Hayes W. @Hayes532 15h Boring Sean the plot bunch of time no real plot and pretty simple way of defeating the enemy and in general a huge snore fest would suggest if you like any other ganera but good if you like war movies or fast paced movies just not for me See more Jeffrey B @RT76272321 1d Acting couldn’t be much worse along with the predictable script not good sorry waste of a couple hours. See more Jerry G @RT32320172 1d What absurd nonsense and very offensive to anyone that's ever served in the military. See more R T @RT35315887 2d The initial part of the film was pretty straightforward- war hero trying to right the wrongs of previous traumatic experiences after losing brother etc. Overcoming negativities to become elite ranger. Then it went completely left of field with alien robotic robocop like terminator machine that caused havoc and destruction. Completely ridiculous and unbelievable to the point where I thought there was nowhere else for the plot to go, except it managed to find some way of ending by getting our hero (Alan Ritchson) battle the alien soldier in a JCB grader. It was almost like the director made it up as he went along. Crazy, nonsense film. See more Todd S @Nowoke 3d Updated predator. Loved this movie from start to finish. Good choice of actors. Non stop action gave me sweaty palms. The sign of a good show. See more Asher M @Asher822 3d Can't wait for the next episode! See more Read all reviews
