Her uncle Aaron (Paul Reid) frequently visits Rita since she has a health problem. Char is an excellent student, bullied by her high-schoolmates Suzanne (Jordanne Jones), Kelly (Katie White) and Amanda (Florence Adebambo). One morning, Rita does not wake up Char on time and Angela, who is depressed, drives her daughter to school. She says that she cannot do this anymore, and when Char is returning home, she sees her mother’s car abandoned on the field and Angela disappears. Aaron and Rita report that Angela is missing to a police officer, but she says that the police have no resource to look for her. However, a few days later, Angela returns with a different personality, without depression and with a joyful behavior, near Halloween. Rita discloses a secret to Char, but the teenager does not believe it. What has happened to Angela? “You Are Not My Mother” (2021) is a strange, but interesting Irish horror movie. The plot has a weird beginning that is explained later, and the viewer is intrigued about what has happened to Angela. Char’s dysfunctional family is mysterious, and Rita is aware of happened to her daughter. The evil behavior of Kelly should have been punished in the end, but the director is not interested in pleasing the viewers. My vote is six.
