Breathe is a heart pounding thriller set in the future. After Earth is left uninhabitable due to lack of oxygen, a mother Maya (Jennifer Hudson) and her daughter Zora (Quvenzhané Wallis) are forced to live underground, with short trips to the surface only made possible by a coveted state of the art oxygen suit made by Maya's husband, Darius, whom she presumes to be dead. When a mysterious couple arrives claiming to know Darius and his fate, Maya tentatively agrees to let them into their bunker but these visitors are not who they claim to be ensuing in mother and daughter fighting for survival.

The movie feels pared down to a fault, resolving its conflicts too quickly and failing to ever take the shape of a coherent allegory. It’s proof that shorter isn’t always better, even in the realm of self-contained genre fare.

Very few movies capture my full attention. I started this movie late at night, which almost guarantees a deep sleep before all of the main characters are introduced. However, this movie captured my attention and held it through out the entire movie. Even after the movie ended, it took some time for my mind to settle down. The movie was the first thing that I thought about the following morning.

Why does Milla Jovovich act in so many post-apocalyptic movies? I don't get it. Well, most are just a big pile of crap. As is this one!! For most of the time it's just boring, and when there is any tension at all, it's pretty illogical. You can fast-forward through 80% or more of this nonsense, and will still have wasted your time. 2/10 points!

I like the genre, post apocalyptic survival but this movie was only just okay. Great supporting cast tried to do well but Jennifer Hudson in the lead was awkward and painful to watch. She was out of her depth and wore one emotion on her face. The sets were very good but the action and story just lacked good direction. It was like drinking Sprite with no bubbles. Definitely not an A list movie.

It was difficult to watch, horrible script, cringe acting, struggling to get to the next scene. Oh, we get it, you’re black and white people are crazy…. Nothing memorable in lines like that. Maybe you can stop color coding and just make a movie.The plot is embarrassingly shallow, happy we watched it on Paramount+ (0.99cents for two months) instead of paying for it. Unfortunately, we did a lot of fast forwarding just to make it stop 😰

Synopsis
