See more dave d @RT34924333 10/20/2020 'The Ghost of Peter Sellers' could have been titled 'The Jerk', but it's an illuminating look at a man in crisis (Sellers) during a down turn in his career. The director of this picture, Peter Medak, was also the director on a troubled production back in 1973 starring Sellers. That film was made and never released, but Medak mentally hasn't fully recovered over 40 years later. This is his therapy. It's structured in a linear way and if you're into that behind the scenes stuff, this is for you. If you like the process of how a movie is made you will also love this. This is essentially about Medak's relationship with Sellers and it's fascinating. What i love about this is the filmmakers not only tell the tale of the film, but also give it context. If you're a Sellers fan you will want to catch this, but you may not like what you see. In the end, it does seem like Medak has made some peace of mind! I'm a Sellers fan, and it revealed zero of interest about him, or Milligan for that matter. There wasn't a single interesting behind the scenes moment, no illuminating back story, (unless you count Medak recounting a commercial shoot). It consisted mainly of Medak whining away endlessly with and to various old Brit movie industry people and pointlessly revisiting the location. Early on, one interviewee tries to persuade him to get over it, and it soon becomes apparent that this doc ought to have ended there and then. The only irony is that the movie itself was no more watchable. For fuck's sake save your $4.99. My recently dwindling faith in RT critics has finally been flushed down the drain.
