What to Know

Critics Consensus

A powerhouse trio isn't enough to save a middling narrative that lacks originality, pizzazz, and a sustainable conceit.

Imperfect Women offers just more of the same because the show itself is only half the problem, the other half is that this genre is just so tired. Go to Full Review

The series’ ad nauseam repetition, its pat dialogue laying bare its themes and episode titles reaffirming those ideas, feel like a desperate, and ultimately failed, attempt to prove to us that Imperfect Women actually has something enlightening to say. Go to Full Review

Yes, it’s glossy and watchable, and it’s kind of fun watching great actors do terrible things. But, lordy, the plot is dumb and some of its parts are laughable — when they’re not supposed to be. Go to Full Review

Well-written and blessed with a five-star cast, this compelling drama brings to mind other female-forward ripped-from-the-novel adaptations like Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects. Go to Full Review

Why cast such excellent actors when the settings don’t feel lived in, the characters aren’t believable, and the plot is twisted in senseless knots? Washington, Moss and Mara deserve so much better. Go to Full Review

There are moments that work, especially in the way it builds tension early on, but as the episodes move forward, the writing struggles to maintain the same grip. What begins as a promising character study slowly descends into something predictable. Go to Full Review

Cheryll V @RT11628221 7h Ok so I like the idea of the story but the cast of imperfect women doesn’t fly. Let’s be honest these three women would never be friends. You have a beautiful, thriving black business woman, a beautiful wealthy blonde woman who is juggling two relationships and a frumpy, unattractive hausfrau. These women would not be friends! Why do we have to include black, white and plain ? To be politically correct? I call BS See more Caroline A. @RT67123934 11h People have been quick to dismiss this show after only a couple of episodes, but I like it so far! HOWEVER, Kerry Washington has confirmed for me that her acting is just bad. Anytime she has to showcase distress or fear, she looks and sounds ridiculous and, occasionally, it ruins entire scenes. So, I get why people don’t love this show because of her, but as a whole, I am enjoying it thus far. See more Christina D @RT43916360 12h Kerry Washington is just unbearable in the series. Her quivering lips and her whiney demeanor make the show unwatchable. See more Wesley S. @wsaylor 23h I’m enjoying this show quite a bit. It’s got great intrigue. I enjoy Elizabeth Moss and Kate Mara. This is my first real exposure to Kerry but she’s striking. I’m curious to see where this show will go. See more Stan H @RT96418365 1d Early spoiler ahead. The show lost me at the end of the first episode when the Kerry Washington character (who was a close friend of the murder victim) decides to get glammed up and attend the ballet with the murder victim's husband shortly after the murder. Regardless how innocent or how culpable the Washington character turns out to be, the character who is portrayed throughout the first episode up to that point would not have done that. I will just wait and check back in at the end to find out who the murderer was. I won't be able to believe anything before that because of this preposterous scene. See more Megan P. @Phillmeg84 1d I couldn’t get past the terrible dialogue and bad acting. Real women don’t talk like that with and about lifelong friends, so it immediately became stale.
